It's about time! Back in October, Apple revealed its long awaited new MacBook Pro's and less then a month later they are finally here! The 2016 model comes as the first significant update to the lineup in quite a while. New design, improved performance, better battery life and an "innovative" Touch Bar that replaces the function keys on the top of the keyboard. This OLED strip offers unique functionality that changes and adapts to whatever program you are using. For example, Final Cut Pro X gives you shortcut keys and the ability to make quick cuts, which is pretty useful. However, there aren't to many programs that fully take advantage of the Touch Bar's capabilities yet so only time will tell if it will truly take off.
Although the new MacBook Pro may seem like an incredible machine on paper, it doesn't come without its drawbacks. Lots of criticism has risen from the professional community on Apple's decision to drop traditional USB ports and the SD card slot for USB-C ports. I feel this decision came a little to soon as well giving users no transition period to adapt to the new standard. However, when you look at the big picture, USB-C is no doubt superior to traditional USB ports in every way. Each port has the ability to provide power, video output, lightning quick file transfers and much more. As long as you don't mind using adapters in your workflow for the time being, the new MacBook Pro is an incredible laptop that is capable of taking on desktop quality tasks. Until next time!
